Weekend Outlook

A half month’s worth of rain will fall in just two days this weekend in the Northeast.  Over 2″ of rain could fall from Washington D.C. to Boston, MA.  The heavy rain combined with recent snow melt, unseasonably warm conditions and a saturated ground will lead to a significant river flooding event.

Light rain and unseasonably warm conditions will continue for the Midwest.  River levels are also running high in this region from the recent snow melt and rain.  My colleague, Meteorologist Todd Nelson, took this video today of the high water on the Crow River in Wright County, MN.  The light rain will taper by Monday but warmer air will move in later in the week which will increase the flooding threat over the region, especially in central and eastern Iowa.

The Four Corners will experience a pleasant warm-up through Saturday before light mountain snow, valley rain and cooler weather moves in Sunday night.  Southern California will feel a slight cool down tomorrow as this storm passes to the north followed by a warmer Sunday and Monday.

Rain showers will continue for the Pacific Northwest this weekend.  The Cascades will receive some much needed snowfall but the snow pack already on the mountain is unstable, therefore, Avalanche Warnings have been issued for the higher terrain.  Snow will spread into the Inter Mountain West Saturday and Sunday.  Winter Storm Watches are issued for the Uintah and Wasatch Mountains in Utah.
