What the heck is WeatherNation?

Over the last few days you may have noticed some changes to the HAMweather site.  Most significant is the logo change of “HAMweather, a WeatherNation Company”.  As CEO of WeatherNation I am proud to announce the addition of HAMweather to the WeatherNation team.

For those of you that are asking yourself “What the heck is WeatherNation?”, please check out our website at www.WeatherNation.net to learn more about what we’re doing.  We are a company that provides specially-formatted weather videos, in both English and Spanish, using professional, degreed, on-air meteorologists.  Our videos span national, regional, and hyper-local communities for use on-air for broadcast and cable, as well as on-line and mobile applications.

Last year we quickly realized that HAMweather provided the most comprehensive graphical and data packages available, with just the right flair for design that we were looking for to compliment our offerings.  Thus, we joined forces and completed an acquisition.  We could not be happier about bringing Lee Huffman and his team into our weather family; we’ve been very pleased with the quality, tenacity and creativity the HAMweather team has already contributed and some amazing upgrades and services are in the development pipeline.

We want to assure current HAMweather customers that we appreciate your loyalty to HAMweather; we will continue to provide you with the superior content and support that you have grown accustomed to over the years. Thank you for your business and your input, no doubt you’ve helped to improve the service and we want that to continue.  Keep an eye out for some new and exciting product offerings to be announced in the very near future.  And if you have any interest in adding customized, metro-scale, regional or national weather videos to your site, click over to WeatherNation for more details.

Predicting more good things for HAMweather customers in the months and years to come! I’m determined to get that forecast right.

New Live Search Map

Live Search MapToday we added a new HW Live Search map that displays the locations of the latest search requests on the HAMweather website.  The map updates in near real time, refreshing with the latest locations every few seconds and visualizes the amazing diversity of locations world-wide that HAMweather provides forecasts for.

Inspiration arose after seeing the  Zappos.com real-time purchase map, after which we quickly realized we could apply the same concept with weather requests on the HAMweather site. We are also testing a 3D globe version.

Note that the HAMweather website often receives a high volume of  search requests, because of this the map may only display the latest search requests.

HAMweather PHP 3.993 Released

We have released HWphp 3.993. This release provides support for the GFS LAMP and a few bug fixes.

A few of the changes include (See the complete change list for the full listing):

  • Added support for GFS LAMP with hourly forecasts
  • Replaced ETA with NAM for Hourly forecasts
  • Other Hourly/MOS bug fixes and tweaks

If upgrading from a previous version of HW3php you only need to download the appropriate upgrade file listed under “upgrade distributions”. To determine the version of your current HW3 installation,  you can normally query your HW3 installation by appending “?version=1″ to your HW3 URL. I.E.  hw3.php?version=1

NOTE: If you are using HW3 with a debug mode password required then the above URL may not display the HW3version information. In such cases you may need to query your HW3 installation requesting debug output with your debug password. I.E. hw3.php?debug=1&debugpw=XXXXX (where XXXXX is your debug password)

HW3Rivers 1.1 Plugin Updated

We have released HW3Rivers 1.1 for HW3php.

This updates corrects several issues with the importing of the observations and a few other items, including:

  • Fixed issue in the HWFetchRivers.php that was decrementing the forecast year on a month roll over.
  • Added optional_integration for users who want to add a rivers tab to locations who have rivers data with in X miles of the location the forecast is for. You can also follow the documentation to add the closest river data to the almanac area (similar to the tides plugin)
  • Corrected the HWFetchRivers.php to allow setting “maxdistance=20″ in the “[RIVERS]” section of config. This allows you to control the mix distance to look for rivers when calling the plugin with out a river gauge or when calling to get the near by rivers
  • corrected some style issues in the templates/riversnearby.html and templates/include/rivers_nearby.html templates
  • corrected paths in the riversmap.html template that was incorrectly referring to a buoys directory for the zoom in/out icons
  • Corrected path issue in the riversimportobs.php
  • Added support for following redirection in riversimportobs.php
  • Made adjustments to riversimportobs.php to correct issues with some servers not working properly on the first call
  • Made adjustments to riversimportobs.php to correct issues with some servers giving warnings for some curl items and functionality in safe mode.
