Still Quiet
Other than a little wintry weather over parts of the Northeast (Winter Weather Advisory thru PM Wed: 2″ to 4″) and a little wind in the Southwest, today is pretty quiet. Take a look at the watches & warnings map:
Lack of Cold Air, Lack of Ice
The lack of Arctic air this winter season has the Great Lakes ‘mostly’ ice free. Take a look at Lake Erie (typically frozen at this point in the season), it is ‘mostly’ ice free. The picture below was taken on 2.6.12
Neat story here by the NWS out of Wilmington OH:
January Climate Stuff
This is interesting, here are some of the top headlines from around the country during the month of January:

A Little More Active
Hello and happy Tuesday everyone, hope all is well on this 7th of February. The weather maps are looking a little more active out there today, but that’s not saying much.
National Map Today
There are 3 areas of interest:
1.) Central Plains will get a little light snow (1″ to 3″) through later today, which may also mix in with a little light freezing drizzle/rain across parts of South Dakota.
2.) West Coast (mainly California) will see rain along the coast and valleys with the higher elevations getting a little snow just north of Los Angeles. This winds will also be quite strong through late today.
3.) Cold air is starting to seep out of Canada, this will be the first surge of cold air… the second surge of cold air drops south of the border later this week.
Warnings Map
The watches and warnings map looks a little more active today, but again, nothing major here.
Snowfall Forecast
This is the snowfall forecast through early Friday, which snow a little light accumulation across the Central Plains today and another blob of snow potential through parts of the Ohio Valley and the Northeast through Wednesday.
Precipitation Forecast
This is the 5-day precipitation forecast across the nation, which shows heavier amounts of moisture across the California coast through today. There will also be some heavier precipitation across the southern tip of Texas and the Pacific Northwest.
Turning Colder
Temperatures for the rest of the week will feel more like February as two cold fronts drops south of the international border.
Tuesday’s Temps
Friday’s Temps
Friday’s High Temps
Note the high temps across the far north … Single digit and teens for highs will actually be a little below normal for a change, bundle up!
Thanks for checking in on this Tuesday, hope all is well!

Cold Air Returns
Hello and happy Monday everyone, hope all is well on this 6th of February. It’s a fairly quiet start to the first full week of February, but we do have weather moving in. We’re talking some West Coast rain/snow and near to below average temperatures later this week.
Coast Rain
A large Pacific storm will send waves of moisture into the West Coast over the next couple of days, where heavy rain and high elevation snow is possible. Take a look at the weather map for California as we roll into Tuesday.
Significant Wind, Nothing Else
For now, the National Weather Service is only deeming the wind threat associated with this system as enough to warn on. High winds (up to 60mph) will be possible from late Monday through PM Tuesday.
West Coast Moisture
The 3-day precipitation forecast for the nation shows the heaviest amount of moisture across California’s West Coast. Through Thursday, the forecast calls for a few locations getting over 1″.
Cold Air Approaches
Monday starts on the mild side with temperatures well above average for the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes Region.
Colder Tuesday
A strong cold front dropping south of the border will drop temperatures nearly 20F from where they will be on Monday… Brrr!
Even Colder Friday
The 2nd cold front moving in by the end of the week looks even colder, dropping the high temperatures into the teens for some across the far north.
High Temps Friday
Here is the high temperature map for Friday… looks a bit chilly!
Thanks for checking in on this Monday, have a great week!
